Match our weird: 1st-timers guide to Reroll Events
Jim van den Bos
You’ve done it! You’ve found our website, and you’re curious about attending an event. But which one should you choose? What can you expect when you turn up? Will people think you’re weird? Okay, maybe that last question was just me remembering how I felt the first time! Anyways, I’ve got you. In this post, I’ll explain our events and what you’ll encounter when you get there.
Step One: Say Hi!
Whether it’s at our store, at Prik, or any of our other locations, everything starts with a simple hello. We’ll warmly welcome you and introduce you to the other players. To avoid the awkwardness of forgetting names—and to help newcomers—we provide name tags at all our events. These also allow people to state their pronouns without having to remind others constantly. As Confucius said: "The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their proper name."
Step Two: Play Games
After you’ve settled in and met a few people, it’s time for games! We always have multiple tables running different types of games. Do you want to get to know others by sniffing out their cunning lies in Night of the Ninja, or would you rather build friendships by collaborating in Cat and the Tower? Everything is possible! We’ll happily explain the rules if necessary, and you’re always welcome to bring your own games to share.
Step Three: Enjoy!
That’s basically it. You’re now part of an ever-growing community that celebrates the hobby in its own queer way. Freedom to be yourself is a (if not the most important) pillar of this group, so don’t worry and just enjoy!
Location, Location, Location
Even though all our events are focused on being easy-going get-togethers, some might be more "your thing" than others. Here’s a quick guide:
- Tuesday Boardgayming @ Prik (19:00 - Late): Weekly, bar environment, focus on party and social games. Lots of space to hang out with new friends. Tickets go fast!
Curious as a first-timer? Just pass by anyway.
- Tuesday RPG Nights @ Reroll Works Store (19:00 - 22:00): Weekly, calm environment. Groups playing D&D, Mausritter, or other TTRPGs. Our DMs keep stories episodic so anyone can jump in.
- Flinta Fridays @ Reroll Works Store (19:00 - 22:00): Every 3rd Friday of the month. Female, Lesbian, Intersex, Non-binary, Trans, and Agender people gather to play games from our extensive library.
- Bare Bones @ Free Willie (17:00 - 20:00): Every last Sunday of the month. We dress down and up the stakes at our naked board gaming event. All genders are welcome to enjoy social games in a bar environment.
- XL Boardgaming @ Reroll Works Store (13:00 - 22:00): Every second Sunday (and some Saturdays). We take our time with longer, more complex games.
- Extra events: Keep checking the website to stay up to date on other events we host periodically, or in collaboration with organisations such as FetLife, Klup and others.
But what if…?
While we are all adults and blessed with very little drama, things can happen that make you feel uncomfortable. We strongly believe gaming should be fun and inclusive. Please reach out to us (Adrian and Jim) if anything happens so we can help.
Are you ready?
Hopefully, this has prepped you for a wonderful time. If you still have questions, feel free to reach out. Join our WhatsApp community or sign up for our newsletter for the latest updates. Most importantly, feel welcome. Show us all your weirdness. I dared to do it years ago, and I can tell you: it’s totally worth it. See you soon!
